Our 4th Kailani cruise – and it has been right up to our expectations – sunny when we arrived followed by 5 wet days, then bright and sunny when we’re ready to leave!
2 tunnels, both started at 7:30am, a visit to the Peace Pagoda in Milton Keynes (very unexpected), then the wonderful fascinating Bletchley Park, where we spent a very enjoyable afternoon. We will return!
Dorenda’s meals were again a delight – and Gordon got wet!
See you in 2019
– Marlene and Reg 26/3 – 1/4/18 –
This was our first cruise on Kailani from Leighton Buzzard to Berkhamsted in early April 2018. We were not sure what to expect but our expectations were exceeding in every respect.
Gordon and Dorenda are wonderful hosts providing good company and wonderful food. The boat is well appointed, comfortable and beautifully maintained.
We have had a wonderful holiday and hope very much to be back again for another trip on this lovely boat.
– Chris and Gordon Rebbetts 4/4/18 – 7/4/18 –
Berkhamsted to Little Venice
I absolutely love to travel and have very high expectations. But even I couldn’t/didn’t expect this truly first class week on the rural canal. From the moment I, adult daughters and I boarded the Kailani, absolutely five star plus attention.
Gordon & Dorenda are expert boat handlers! Kailani is spotlessly kept. Every detail is spot on – top quality towels and sheets. Truly gourmet menus and 4 courses. Freshly baked tea sweets twice a day. All this and entertainment with Gordon’s sense of humour and Dorenda’s cuteness and knowledge of the countryside. There is no doubting our return is only when!
Thank you !!!!

Gordon & Dorenda
We had a wonderful time on our adventure with you. Thank you for putting up with all of our silly questions, laughter, endless appetites!
Your cooking was amazing! Gordon’s “charm & wit” were unmatched. I cannot wait to plan another trip with you. If you ever find yourselves in the Central Coast, would like to tour a winery, please give me a call.

Thank you for the most incredible trip! I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed myself quite so much. The beautiful scenery was only matched by your gorgeous boat and your warn hospitality.
Thank you for your conversation and joining in all the laughter – it was a most memorable voyage!
– Kalee Thomas Charleston, South Carolina –

What a wonderful way to spend the warmest five days in 2018 so far.
Dorenda and Gordon looked after us so well that we’ve been thoroughly spoiled…… And Janet & Mike’s company was great fun!
We hope to come back again soon – time and family permitting. Sorry we couldn’t write a poem, though…

A lovely repeat of my trip last year – [plus that intriguing circle around the Olympic Park – but just as enjoyable, if not better.

Thank you once again

In 1948 two nine year old boys met at Prep School in North Wales and maintained a friendship throughout the intervening decades. To celebrate 70 years of friendship we have spent a wonderful few days on Kailani with their respective wives, canal cruising in sunshine and luxury from Henley to Newbury.
Thank you very much indeed Gordon and Dorenda for your care of us all and helping so well to mark for us both a special milestone.

1 – 10th June 2018 Devizes – Bristol
This has been our third time on the Kailani and we have thoroughly enjoyed out stay. We have, as always, enjoyed the meals that Dorenda has prepared and cooked to a very high standard.
The scenery encountered between Devizes and Bristol has varied greatly and Gordon has steered us along gracefully. The weather has been reasonable, with the exception of 2 days, that were considerably cooler.
We’ve already booked for 2019 and will look forward to seeing Gordon and Dorenda again.
– Janet & Keith Burston –
25th to 30th May 2018 Newbury to Devizes also 1st to 9th June 2018 Devizes to Bristol
Our 2nd time on Kailani which was just as wonderful as the 1st. Gordon and Dorenda looked after us very well. They have served us delicious meals every day. It is marvellous how Dorenda has to attend to so many different tasks with such precision, and still cook those lovely meals.
The trip along the Kennet and Avon canal was lovely and peaceful and there were lovely spots along the journey including places where we moored. We enjoyed the company of all our fellow travellers, Christine & Andrew, Janet and Keith, as well as Gordon and Dorenda themselves.

12th – 18th June 2018
Bristol to Bradford on Avon (trip No. 4)
We’ve all had a fabulous time
But we’re beginning to run out of rhyme
We’ve eaten and drunk and been merry
And sailed the Bristolian Ferry.
The showers were hot, or sometimes quite cool
But the welcome is always so warm
Whatever the trip, it’s always a hit
On our Hotel Boat called Kailani
Here’s to trip number 5 – July 2019
Thank you both!

Thank you to Kailani for taking me on a lovely exploratory cruise up the Wey Navigation to Dapdune Wharf and Guildford. Lots of memories, wild flowers, a steam boat, and just a tiddly bit of the Basingstoke.
The sherry with ice was nice too!
I look forward already to Newbury next year

To Gordon and Dorenda ( and of course Kailani), for taking us on this wonderful trip to London and back to Kingston. It has been super to journey with you, and we are so sorry to have to say “Goodbye” this morning.
We will badly miss your superb meals Dorenda plus your little treats in the mornings and afternoons.

Thank you so much Gordon and Dorenda for a wonderful six day trip. I have never done anything like it before and have enjoyed it enormously, as I know Sally and David have, though they are seasoned travellers with you!
We all appreciated your delicious meals Dorenda and will find it difficult to come down to earth and cook for ourselves!
Also Gordon we much appreciated your skill on the day when the weather was bad and conditions were difficult for you.
With all best wishes to you both
– From Sally, David & Virginia –
P.S. I hope to travel with you again one day

Hosts – brought caring to a fine art in every way
Scenery – a thousand shades of green plus birds and animals in various shapes and sizes
Friendliness from passing boats and silent fishermen
The occasional helicopters and aeroplanes to remind us that our normal world was still out there.
I feel rested and refreshed in Body, Mind and Spirit. Thank you Gordon and Dorenda for all your care
– Love Jo Jewels –
One of the best holidays I have ever had, very good luck and success in the future

A memorable (and for me, a nostalgic cruise0 with scenic beauty and historical relevance.
Perhaps the excellent ship could be called HMS Brittannie!!
Thanks and praise to our caring and attentive hosts.
– Raymond Rowsell –
27th August Abingdon – Caversham
A truly relaxing few days getting to know the river. We thoroughly enjoyed Gordon and Dorenda’s hospitality – especially the fabulous meals and cakes.
We came on a girlie weekend and had fun learning about locks and how to (just about) steer the boat. Lots of laughter and a really nice change of pace.
– Helen, Charlotte, Amanda and Dawn –
3rd September 2018
Rosemary and Neville Gibson always travel first class and we certainly did this on Kailani.
The Thames cruise was superb from the moorings of great places to the supreme cooking from Dorenda. Gordon’s choice of spots to stop and his craftmanship was “first class”. We enjoyed their company and hope to do so again.
Best wishes Neville
Agree! agree! agree! – unusual? Rosemary
5th – 11th September 2018
We came to see Limehouse Basin and we enjoyed our night there. We walked around twice. I enjoyed the chance to do locks again.
The boat was beautiful. The food was so well cooked and it seemed to be so very varied.
The trip from Limehouse to Kingston was excellently steered. We saw many sites from our past and ran the Boat Race course.
Thank you, best wishes and great journeys in the future.
– Paul and Amy Bright –
Gordon and Dorenda 16/9/18
We have had the most wonderful 5 day cruise.
What else can I say that hasn’t been said before! Everything was perfect, not least our fellow guests Carol and Michael – right from our first meeting we clicked and had such great fun.
The work put in by Dorenda and Gordon was incredible and the whole cruise was exemplary.
And, if you can help with the locks – fantastic!
– Sue Scrase and Mo Amor –
Gordon & Dorenda
16 Sept 18
Once again, the last 5 days have exceeded our expectations!
Dorenda’s cooking (of course) and the trip down the tidal Thames were the icing on the cake. And with our travel companions Sue and Mo, we couldn’t have had a better trip. We just cant say enough about how wonderful and relaxing it is to come aboard the Kailani and spend 5 days cruising with you!
Thank you so much!
– Carol & Michael Sutton –
Rain, rain go away
Came again another day…..
Preferably on someone else’s holiday! LOL
Thank you both…..we are glad you have been a part of our lives. We wish you well in all your future “adventures” and hope you sail smoothly, through life. Goodbye and good luck!
– Ken & Faye Diamond –
We don’t want to go home. Holiday was excellent as usual. The food was second to none, we where really spoilt. Pete enjoyed helping Dorenda with the locks, and is certainly fitter than he was when he just boarded the boat.
As we leave the sun is shining, wish you both the best of luck, you both work very hard to achieve excellence, and you certainly succeed in doing this
Many thanks Love
– Pete and Margaret –
11-Oct-2018 – Kingston to Napton on the Hill.
Kailani’s homeward trip to winter mooring. Wonderful trip again. Magnificent scenery on GUC (Grand Union Canal). Weather was very kind apart from 1 wet day.
Gordon and Dorenda are wonderful hosts and great companions. Thank you for everything including our “Gold” Gifts.
